Broken News
The Republican effort to create newly gerrymandered Congressional District maps in the General Assembly has failed. The June 9 Primary date proceeds as normal. See our REDISTRICTING page for more.
US House of Representatives
In 2025, all of York County was contained within US House District 5. That is about to change with Republicans in the SC General Assembly now (late May 2026) in special session to redraw the maps in an attempt to eliminate the one Democratic District in the state (District 6) and turn it Republican. The final map is yet to be determined, but the map just sent from the House to the Senate would push the Fort Mill area (and Lancaster County) into a different district. Watch the news, and see our REDISTRICTING page for more.
Republican Ralph Norman is the incumbent, but he is leaving his House seat and running for Governor in 2026. House members serve two-year terms, and we are in the middle of that election in 2026. See the Meet the Candidates page for updates on who’s running, and the Voting in York County page for (you guessed it), information on voting (in York County😉).

In 2025 there are four South Carolina Senate districts that include part of York County: 14, 15 16 and 17. District 15 is located entirely within the County.
State Senators serve four-year terms, with elections on ‘Presidential’ years, so the next election for State Senators will be in 2028. The Primary is TBA. The incumbents are all Republicans.
The Meet the Candidates page will have updates on who’s running when we get closer to the 2028 election.
SC House Districts
in York County
In 2025, there are eight South Carolina House Districts that include parts of York County. That number changed with 2020 redistricting, with the County losing two districts (30 and 45), and gaining a new one (66). The 2025 Districts are: 26, 29, 43, 46, 47, 48, 49 and 66. John R King is the incumbent Democrat in District 49. The other incumbents are Republicans.
SC House members serve two-year terms, and elections are held in ‘even number’ years (same as US House elections). The next election will be in 2026. See the Meet the Candidates page for updates on who’s running.
York
County Council
Districts
There are seven York County Council Districts. Council members serve 4-year terms. Three will be elected in 2026: Districts 3, 4 and 7
Note that while the Council races are partisan, it can be difficult to decode which party the incumbents belong to until ballots are published. The York County ‘Elected Representatives’ web page does not include party affiliation. In 2025, Bump Roddey (District 4) is the only Democrat on County Council.
See the Meet the Candidates page for updates on who’s running.

York County
Precincts
Precincts are the smallest political subdivision in York County – there are 100 of them in the county. Your Precinct is where you vote, and you’ll find it listed in your voter registration info. There are no elected officials at the Precinct level. YCDP has Precinct Presidents (other areas call them Precinct Captains) for many but not all York County Precincts.
