THE CONVENTION HERE
SCDP Rules have aligned county conventions and elections for all SC counties. They say that county parties will have conventions every year, with officer elections in odd number years (so this year, 2025). YCDP elected officers in 2024, and those officers are serving one-year terms, expiring this year. With the 2025 election, officers will be back on schedule for two-year terms.
So, we will be electing a slate of officers at this convention, and we will open a filing period beginning at10 AM Thursday, February 27, and ending 48 hours before the Convention, 10 AM Thursday, March 13 . Nominations will be accepted from the floor during the Convention only for offices that have no filed candidates.
YCDP Officer Election
Online nominations for YCDP Officer positions have closed. Nominations will be taken from the floor only for positions that to not have any filed candidates. Current candidates will be listed on the YCDP Facebook Group (note that this is a private group).
A reminder of the rules for officer positions of First or Second Vice Chair: the gender or race requirements for those chairs are based on the gender and race of the Chair. So at the convention, you will see individuals running for both offices. Also, the Third Vice Chair must be someone under 35.
Yes, DEI is alive and well
in the Democratic Party!
PRECINCT Representatives on the Executive Committee
We will have time for Precinct meetings this year (we didn’t do it last year).
The County Democratic Parties are governed by the County Executive Committee made up of one member from every precinct. Interested in serving? File the form here. The county convention will elect the new members. If you don't know your precinct you can look it up here: https://scvotes.gov
Resolutions
Resolutions are an important part of our Convention process - your chance to bring issues before the County and State Parties.
To submit a Resolution, download this pdf form, complete it, and either print it out and bring it to the Convention, or submit it to our email address (see the bottom of this page). We would like to receive Resolutions in advance if possible.
Resolutions submitted to the YCDP County Convention are read in full unless the convention unanimously votes to hear only the topic of like resolutions. For example: ban assault rifles.
After our convention we send all the Resolutions to the SCDP for the committee to combine and approve, and be read at the SCDP state convention.
The 2024 YCDP Convention is history!
That history is preserved on our YouTube Channel and our audio podcast. If you missed it, you can relive the whole thing (with better sound👂🏻🔊), and you can use the extensive time-coded INDEX on the YouTube Description to zero in on the action you want to review.
